SERVICES

Quality work. Excellent editing. Attention-grabbing final project.

I offer the following services to assist clients in making their project the very best possible version of itself.

Manuscript Evaluation

General pricepoint: $50/hour
What it includes: A manuscript evaluation provides information to the author to help them improve the structure and engagement of their manuscript. Manuscript evaluation includes:
● character examination
● breakdown of plot structure and impact
● assessment of chapter flow and organization
● examination of writing style, including voice and tense
The final manuscript evaluation includes a multi-page written document addressing those areas of the work. Also included are questions for the author to consider with an eye to improve the text. An hourlong verbal discussion of the text in an audio or audiovisual call is offered as an extra service.
If you are looking to strengthen an existing manuscript’s structure, this is the service for you.

Substantive Editing

General pricepoint: $50/hour

What it includes:
Developmental editing ushers the author through the process of taking an idea or an outline with some written content to having a complete draft. Substantive editing takes a finished draft and reworks the structure, content, and organization to be more intuitive and coherent. Both require a top-down perspective on the text, and are a higher level of mental engagement, looking at a text holistically and from the outside rather than just at internal consistency.
These higher levels of editing involve more contact between editor and author, and result in a stronger final product. If you are looking to strategically organize an existing text, or develop a valuable idea, this is the service for you.

Copyediting

General pricepoint: $40/hour

What it includes:
Copyediting involves looking at a text and creating internal consistency line by line and chapter by chapter. Copyedited projects often include a style sheet, which is provided for reference and to ensure that names, terms, numbers, and other significant parts of the writing are uniform.
Copyediting is helpful for almost every type of project. If you are seeking to make an appealing, smooth-flowing final product, this is the service for you.

Proofreading

General pricepoint: $33/hour

What it includes:
Proofreading catches unintended misspellings, grammatical issues, and homonyms that exist in a text. It is the final step that removes distracting errors from a text and gives it a polished feeling.
Proofreading is valuable for every kind of project. If you are looking for a quick service that shows your work in its best light, this is the service for you.

Nonfiction Writing

General pricepoint: Price varies by the amount of research that needs to be done and the length of the project. Contact me with an outline and the desired length for a quote.

What it includes:
Writing a nonfiction text from an outline and provided data. Additional research as needed will be added to project costs.
If you are looking to create concise, informational content from a solid outline, this is the service for you.

Transcription

General pricepoint: $4/audio minute, subject to project acceptance

What it includes:
Transcription records the spoken word from an audio or audiovisual resource. Transcription can either be standard or verbatim; standard transcription glosses over the small sounds of acknowledgment and repeated words to provide a smoother transcript, while a verbatim transcript includes all background spoken sounds including identifying laughter and filler words. Transcription does not include transcribing background music or audio.
If you have an audio file that would benefit from a written component, this is the service for you.
Please note: transcription jobs cannot be rush jobs, as they are limited by the time taken to listen and transcribe the content. Transcription is not the same as captioning; transcription provides a script or text to accompany a sound or video file, while captioning synchronizes the transcript to the video as subtitles or captions. I do not offer captioning services at this time.

Timeliness

I strive to give complete, excellent work on a focused timeline. I am happy to work with your deadlines within reason. For availability, contact me and let me know your ideal time frame.

Contract

Before any work begins on any project (except for the free sample edit), both parties will sign a contract that describes the project expectations, time frame, goals, and payment. This ensures that expectations are uniform and that nothing is missed or delayed due to miscommunication. No work will be done until the contract is signed and the down payment is received; timely response to the contract is thus essential to prevent project delay.
